2/3/2013 It was a good weekend in the sense that we got the region win on Friday night against Mandan. However it was disappointing that to finish the weekend with a loss to West Fargo. It took us a little while to get going on Friday night against Mandan but I thought we did a good job of staying after them and eventually started taking care of their opportunities. West Fargo did a better job than we did coming out and dictating the tempo and style of play.- they got after us pretty good early and we took some sloppy penalties that did not help us. |

This was a big win for us on the road against a good team. We did a good job in the first half or the game of controlling the puck and playing our type of game. I thought we survived their pressure in the 3rd period and capitalized on a couple of real good chances. Andrew Hill had 2 big goals for us in the 3rd period- he played solid for us all night. Riley Monson had his most consistent effort of the year- he made the big saves when we needed it. |

Bottineau Rugby defeat Williston 6 - 3.
It was nice to get through this stretch of the season- with the make-up game with Williston we ended up playing 4 games in 5 days. We were awfully tired at the end of that stretch. I thought we competed hard in that stretch of games. As a teams we were able to pick up 4 wins in the region- it definitely helps us out in the standings. |

I didn't think we were real sharp on the weekend but it was a
nice road trip picking up 2 region wins. I thought we seemed a little
sluggish both days- we seemed to let the play come to us rather than dictating play. I thought both of our opponents played hard against us. |

Jan. 29 - Three Bottineau Braves are part of the top ND state high school hockey scoring leaders with Seth Serhienko leading in the state with 43 total points, including 14 goals & 29 assists. Logan Millican is just 2 points behind with a total of 41 overall points, including 26 goals & 15 assists. Freshman Harrison Aide is not far behind, ranked # 4 in the state with 35 points with 17 goals & 18 assists.
Serhienkos fine eye for the game depicts that the game isn’t just about individuals placing the puck into the net, it is more about how that puck gets there. Younger players & coaches, should take note & capitalize on watching how players can work together to achieve results in the winning department by following the adage PASS SHOOT SCORE.
Don’t forget about the defensive play. Teams can’t win by scoring alone. Bottineau’s goalies have been holding their own with a lot of hard work from the defensive men helping them manage the score. Defense is an often overlooked team play aspect. The Bottineau Braves goalies Cody Brooks & Michael Kornkven are both ranked in the top 12.
Good Luck to the Braves & coach Hoff this weekend against Century !!!
PASS, SHOOT, SCORE !!!
Bottineau & Rugby high schools have entered a 3 year agreement to co-op a high school hockey team. The The game schedule will be adjusted to allow some games to be played at Rugby. For the 1st year the team will continue to be known as the Bottineau Braves; as time did not allow for futher adjustments to the program.
