out victorious 8-2.

Lumberjacks Stick Close to Ile des Chenes (2-23-08)
The MSU-B Lumberjacks still had a good shot at victory heading
into the third period, down only 2-1. But the North Stars capped off the
two game sweep with a 3rd goal in the final period making the final score
3-2.
Lumberjacks Fall to Ile des Chenes 7-3 (2-22-08)
The MSU-B Lumberjacks know they are a bit overmatched by these
last two regular season opponents, both AAA Senior Canadian teams because
they are stronger, older and far more experienced. Some of the players have
seen Division I College and Pro hockey experience. But the Jacks feel they
can learn something from these veterans and improve their game by playing
them in preparation for the NJCAA finals coming up in New York in just a
week's time.
Lumberjacks Plan Blue Line Appreciation This Week (2-19-08)
The MSU-B Lumberjacks are planning special activities this

Bismarck Century Ends BHS Season 6-2 (2-16-08)
The BHS Braves played the Bismarck Century Patriots with only
one point separating them for most of the game before caving in 6-2 on Friday
in Loser-out action at the West Region Hockey Tournament in Minot. The second
loss in the tournament ends one of the Braves' most successful seasons in
recent years.
The Patriots scored first, but Bottineau was only down 2-1
by the end of the first period on a Collin Thompson goal. Thanks to a Tom
Kornkven goal with less than a minute to go in the second period the Braves
pulled within one again at 3-2. The score remained 3-2 until there were only
4:07 minutes left in the game. Then Bismarck scored a short-handed goal and
two minutes later they were up 6-2.
Bismarck Defeats Bottineau; Getzlaff Injured (2-14-08)
Bismarck High defeated the Bottineau Braves 8-1 in opening
round action of the West Region Hockey Tournament in Minot Thursday. Bottineau's
goalie, Darwin Getzlaff, left the game in the first period after suffering
an injury when a teammate ran into him. The extent of his injuries and his
status for the remainder of the tournament are unknown. Bottineau will play
Bismarck Century at 11:00 am Friday.
Scores:
#1-Bismarck High 8
#8-Bottineau 1
BHS Braves Defeat Hazen-Beulah 9-3 (2-11-08)
The BHS Braves jumped to a 3-0 lead in the first period. Hazen-Beulah
managed one goal in the first. The second period Bottineau came out sluggish
and the North Stars took advantage, scoring in the first minute and tying
the game 3-3 going into the third. But the Braves came out like gangbusters
in the third period, proving who wanted the game more. The Braves scored
6 unanswered goals in the third period, three of them within a minute between
the 11:00 and 10:00 minute to go markers.
Bottineau now advances to the West Region Tournament and plays
number one seeded and undefeated Bismarck High School on Thursday, Feb. 14
in Minot.

Lumberjacks Give Shattuck-St. Mary's a Battle (2-09-08)
MSU-B goalie Didychuk given star of the game by web broadcasters.
Shattuck St. Mary's took a 2-0 lead in period one, but the
Lumberjacks got aggressive in period two, evened the score at 2-2 midway
through the second period and matched the Sabres goal for goal in skating
to a 4-4 tie by the end of the game. Below is a brief game log as taken from
the webcast. Because it was a webcast log, you will need to read it by paragraph
from the bottom up.
The teams meet again Sunday, but that game will not be webcast.

4-1 over their Bottineau counterparts Tuesday evening at the Lumberdome.
More details later.
MSU Beavers Prevail 5-4 in Rematch (2-04-08)
The MSU-B Lumberjacks scored first within 10 seconds and managed
a 3-3 tie at the end of period one, but it wasn't enough as Minot State went
on to run up a 5-4 score by the end of the second period. There was no scoring
in the third period. The first period was fast-paced and very aggressive
by both teams, as was the second period until a fight broke out mid-way through
the second period. The third period was calmer until the last couple of minutes
when tempers once again dominated reason. Three MSU players were ejected
from the game as was one Lumberjack. There were lots of penalties on both
teams beginning mid-way through the second period and lasting the rest of
the game.
Lumberjacks Look To Avenge Sat Loss Tonight (2-04-08)
The MSU-B Lumberjacks were stunned to lose a game against the
Minot State Beavers after they led 3-0 early in the game. Look for a new
level of intensity in the Lumberjacks tonight as they take on the Beavers
for the last time this season.
Gametime is 7:30 at the Lumberdome.
Next weekend the Lumberjacks have an away series with Shattuck
St. Mary's before returning home for their final home game of the season
vs. the Bismarck Bobcats Feb. 19.

on the road this past weekend, defeating the Regina Capitals on Saturday

Botno Braves JV Shut Out Crosby Comets (1-29-08)
The Bottineau Braves JV team had a field day Monday night as
they defeated the Crosby Comets, 5-0, a team they had barely beaten in overtime
earlier in January by a score of 5-4 (OT). The Braves raced to a 2-0 advantage
in the first period, adding another goal in the second period and two more
in the third.
In Crosby's defense, they had an arduous journey even getting
to Bottineau Monday night as temperatures dropped, the wind blew harder and
the snow accunulated in near-blizzard conditions. But, as one Crosby fan
commented, "Hey, it's winter in North Dakota."
I didn't catch who achieved the goals for the Braves, but it
was nicely spread out. Anderson recorded 30 saves for the comets while Aaron
Wendel pushed aside 14 saves for the Braves.
Bottineau JV Hosts Crosby Tonight (1-28-08)
The Bottineau High School JVs take on the Crosby Jr. Gold Team
tonight at 6:00 pm in a rematch of a game played in Crosby on Jan. 7th. Bottineau
won the first matchup in a close contest, 5-4 in OT.
Reston Over Bantams 3-1 Sun Night (1-28-08)
BHS Shut Out By Tough Bismarck Squad (1-26-08)
The Bottineau High School Braves proved they could keep pace
with the Bismarck Demons, but couldn't find the back of the net as the Demons
outshot Bottineau 50-17, cashing in on six of their shots for a final 6-0
victory over the Braves. The Braves moved the puck well and worked it down
into the Demon's zone often enough. The Demons remain undefeated in West
Region action.

The Wawanesa game was on Saturday 8-5 in favor of the "Bottineau Lil'

between Crosby coaches and the referees, the goal was disallowed.
The Braves had a hard time finding the Crosby goal early in
the overtime period and bounced one off the pipes before scoring in the sudden
death overtime. Sorry--no report on who scored the goals or the time of the
goals. Anyone want to help me out.
Unofficial reports had Michael Kornkven and Aaron Wendel each
getting 14 saves as they shared goalie duties in their expected rotation.

score 5-3 Bottineau.

Bottineau got the lead back with 5:52 remaining in period 2.
Bottineau's second goal of the period came with 1:14 remaining, and they
extended their lead to 4-1 nine seconds later to finish out scoring for the

BHS Loses Heartbreaker 6-5 in OT (11-30-07)
With only 2:21 minutes left in the game, the BHS Braves dropped

come-from-behind effort and scored twice more in the waning minutes of the
game, once with 55 seconds to go and once again with only 26 seconds remaining
to tie the game in regulation 5-5.
But in a hard-fought defensive overtime period, Williston slipped
the winning goal past BHS goalie Darwin Getzlaff with 2:05 remaining in the

Braves Lose Opener 10-2 (11-20-07)
The Bottineau High School Braves lost their season opening
hockey game 10-2 to the Antler River (Deloraine and area schools) Devils
Monday night. The Braves came out sluggish while the Devils seemed to be
hitting on all cylinders.
The Devils took a 2-0 lead into the first period break and
extended the lead to 5-0 midway through the 2nd period before Joe Handeland
scored a goal on an assist by Trenton Metcalfe with 6:43 left in the period.
That closed out scoring in the second period. Antler River
built their lead to 10-1 before Bottineau scored again with only 1:55 remaining
in the game. This time Metcalfe scored the goal with Handeland getting the
assist.
Both Bottineau goals were short-handed.

4-2 and look forward to playing the Minnesota Flying Aces Tuesday, Nov. 20
at Jamestown. Faceoff is at 7:00 pm.
Braves Tested at W. Region Scrimmage (11-18-07)
The Bottineau High School Braves traveled to Hazen Saturday
to meet Williston and Dickinson in pre-season scrimmage action. Because it
was a scrimmage no scores were kept in the two twenty-minute-period games.
But if scores had been kept Bottineau would have dropped the Williston game
by something like 4-2 or 5-1 and lost to Dickinson 5-0. (Parents have a hard
time agreeing on these things.) Not too much should be made of scrimmage
efforts, however as coaches are trying out younger players and mixing things
up a bit to find out what works and what doesn't. All-in-all it was a good
workout for the Braves and they came away with positive feelings.
